Volunteer Yourself

"Nothing is stronger than the heart of a volunteer."

Yanjie shared this with me as we were catching up at Huaqiang and Sarah's wedding rehearsal today. Wow. Simple but terribly profound. We were talking about ministry, and about how to help rally the other brothers in our units.

(Always so refreshed by Yanjie, in spirit and in soul. Thank God for you, dear bro! =))

Because a volunteer has genuine passion. And that passion will empower him/her to overcome the obstacles and difficulties that must be overcome. It is like petrol in a car. It may have the finest engine, but if it has no petrol, it cannot work. You can push a car that has run out of petrol, but that is not how a car was meant to operate.

It's like, nobody asked you to do it, but you volunteered. You volunteered, for you saw the priceless pearl hidden in the midst of the mud and mire. You knew that what you did would be echoed in eternity, with the angels and saints around the throne. It was worth selling everything you had just to touch that thing you knew God had called you to do.

And that is why someone with a volunteer's heart can have the strength to run the gauntlet, and carry on even in face of the most daunting challenges. Blood, sweat and tears. Thought it takes years. To spend - even though it be blood to spend, and spare not. “In battle it is not syllogisms that will keep the reluctant nerves and muscles to their post in the third hour of the bombardment.” What will keep us to our posts, then?

If we truly want to leave an extraordinary legacy then, to inspire others to live even more fully for Christ... then let us hurl all our heart and soul into whatever He has commanded us to do, and to be.

Talking on the same topic of passion:
I’ve yet to hear anyone come up to me and say that unbridled enthusiasm and unabashed passion failed to make an impact in their ministry. I’ve yet to hear that people don’t feel the difference when they see genuine and sincere effort. I’ve yet to hear anyone tell me that God didn’t deliver when His people went all out for His cause.

Until and unless I’ve been proven wrong in this, you can call me boring, obstinate or even stuck in the past. But I’m going to be a seed-sowing fool, because I know that God isn’t half as pleased at the cleverness of my plans, as compared to the works of my hands.

Be totally His.
