True Measure, True Pleasure

Heng: as i was praying, remembered a testimony that my CL shared

you know Dr William Tan?

me: the wheelchair guy?

Heng: yeah!
10:53 AM
who runs marathons

me: wat abt him?

Heng: here goes

1. He's Christian
10:54 AM
2. He contracted polio at 2, lost the use of his legs since then

My CL knows him personally, acquainted
10:55 AM
so one day he went and asked Dr Tan, "do you ever pray to be healed?"

Dr Tan said that in the past, in his youth, he would always pray to be healed
10:56 AM
but he was never healed

and he was disappointed, and angry with God

one day, God spoke to him through a verse
10:58 AM
me: bro i gtg now

so sorry

but type out the rest for me n email me?: )

IF u have tim

time

Heng: i'll leave you the verse

Psalm 147:10-11
10:59 AM
Dr Tan's life changed forever after that verse

he stopped praying for healing

cya bro
Thanks so much dear Weizhu for sharing with me this verse.
Psalm 147:10-11 (New International Version)
10 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his delight in the legs of a man;
11 the LORD delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.

We stress about the importance of being strong. And I know that competence is important in ministry. But where does our PLEASURE and DELIGHT lie in? Do we admire the strength of men... or do we delight in those who fear the Lord, who put their hope in His unfailing love?

I think in church often we look and admire how strong certain people are. And then we are shocked if they leave church. But why so?

Did we disciple them to fear the Lord, to put their hope in His unfailing love?

Do we look first at the strength, even the character, of a man, or do we look first at the heart of a man? A man's heart for God, no matter how weak he may be in terms of competence or character? I believe that the heart is the wellspring of all life... character may become corrupted... competence may become crippled... but a heart continually overflowing for God will continue to water not only himself, but also those around him sooner or later.

Some people admire those who hold firmly to their convictions. I differ. I don't admire those who hold on to their principles strongly. Even the Nazis could do that! So what's there to admire about that?

Rather, I admire those who hold on to the right principles faithfully, no matter how weak they may be. For the true measure of a winner in a marathon is not he who runs the fastest (tho that's nice)... but he who gets up the most number of times.

What is God's true measure, true pleasure of a man then?

"Measure Of A Man"
- Clay Aiken

If one day you discover him
Broken down he's lost everything
No cars, no fancy clothes to make him who he's not
The woman at his side is all that he has got
Why do you ask him move heaven and earth
To prove his love has worth?

Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
When it's down to the wire
Would he give his life up
To be all he can
Is that, is that, is that how you measure a man?

If by chance all he had to give you
Was three words wrapped around your finger
Would that be deep enough at the end of every day
And how will you ever know
If a man is what he says?

Why do you ask him to move heaven and earth
To prove his love has worth
Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
When it's down to the wire
Would he give his life up to be all he can
Is that, is that, is that how you measure a man?

He never gives up
Lets go of his dream
His world goes around for his one true belief
Is that how you know
Is that what it means?

Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
Would he will be your anchor when the dark unfolds
Would he always love you the best that he knows?

Would he give his life up
To be all that he can
Is that, is that, is that how you measure a man?

Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
When it's down to the wire
Would he give his life up
To be all he can

Is that, is that, is that, how you measure oh...

Is that, is that, is that, how you measure a man?
